Neurogenic polycythemia: Report of a patient with transient erythrocytosis associated with occlusion of a middle cerebral artery, and review of the literature
HS Gilbert, A Silverstein - The American Journal of Medicine, 1965 - Elsevier
A patient with transient erythrocytosis which was confirmed by blood volume studies and an
angiographically verified transient occlusion of a middle cerebral artery is described. The
studies performed and a four year follow-up excluded polycythemia vera, anoxic
erythrocytosis and relative polycythemia. Despite this case report and the abundant
literature, the relationship between the central nervous system and erythropoiesis remains
undetermined.
