Background Vaccines are one of the most cost-effective interventions, saving millions of
lives every year. Yet, despite all the efforts invested, vaccines against complex diseases
such as HIV, TB and malaria remain resistant to development. One of the main impediments
is the lack of correlates of protection, whose identification would improve and accelerate the
design and development of vaccine candidates for these infectious diseases.
